Dr. Jawed's experience involves working with clients in the community, sometimes referred to as the "worried well," individuals with more severe mental illness, dually diagnosed individuals (those suffering from substance abuse and mental health issues), and forensic clients. Her experience also involves provision of psychoeducational assessments, i.e. assessments for learning disabilities or ADHD for children and adults. Dr. Jawed has worked in Federal and Provincial correctional institutions providing psychological risk assessments and treatment. As a Clinical manager for a national Employee Assistance firm, she gained extensive experience with human rights and disability legislation related to the workplace, work-related psychological injuries and accommodations, and substance abuse and fitness to work assessments. Interest in human rights has led to Dr. Jawed providing psychological assessments related to mental health claims in cases of immigration, individuals fleeing from persecution, and torture.
Dr. Jawed provides both psychological assessment and treatment services. She is well versed in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Solution focussed therapy, and Interpersonal therapy among other schools of thought. Similar to the importance of a psychologist-client fit, the fit of a client to the therapy style is also important. Therefore, Dr. Jawed's therapeutic strategy is tailored to each individual client's relating style and needs.
Dr. Jawed's emphasis in therapy is on your undiscovered strength and resilience so that you can achieve the goals that are important to you. She believes that life's adversities provide a varied backdrop for opportunities of self-learning and self-healing. Dr. Jawed is grateful for the opportunity to accompany you on a journey that leads to such a sense of empowerment.
Dr. Jawed would be happy to provide an initial 15-minute complimentary phone or in person consultation so that you may assess if the psychologist fit is appropriate for you.

Shana Prinsloo, Registered Psychologist, Alberta
Shana Prinsloo is a registered psychologist in the province of Alberta, providing assessment and treatment services for both adults and children. In addition, she is employed by a large cooperation within Canada providing a variety of services to customers nationwide. These services include expert assessments and treatment for substance abuse disorders, as well as mental health disorders. She is also involved with program development, oversight of various programs within the organization, supervising psychologists, and working with clients while interfacing with organizations in assisting their employees.
Shana has over 10 years of experience working with both adults and children in a therapeutic setting. Prior to joining her current position at Homewood Health, she worked internationally conducting forensic and neuropsychological evaluations as an associate in a private practice setting. In addition, she provided therapeutic clinical services to individuals across the lifespan. Since her arrival in Alberta, she has provided services in an educational setting conducting clinical assessments and providing therapeutic services to individuals experiencing mental health concerns.
Shana specializes in psycho-educational assessments for children and teens and has experience working for school boards within Alberta. Psycho educational assessments assist in understanding a child's learning style, development, and emotional / behavioural functioning. They are also able to identify if there is an underlying learning disability/disorder, and assess for the possibility of giftedness. The results that you will receive will assist with program planning specific to your child's individual needs.
It is important to recognize that no two children are the same so ensuring that programming matches his/her individual needs will assist greatly in reducing frustration levels within your child, thereby helping them to reach their full potential. It is also likely to greatly influence future opportunities for success.
